Dear friends of Camp Paivika,
I always knew that Camp Paivika was a special place but I didn’t have the opportunity to understand how much until I attended camp with my son Christopher last year. Prior to that, Christopher had been going every summer for over 10 years thanks to your support.
I want to take this opportunity to tell you what an impact your generosity has made on my son’s life…
In short, camp has become the highlight of his year every year, because it is the one occasion that he can enjoy independently with his friends. Just getting out of Los Angeles into the beautiful surroundings and wilderness of Camp Paivika is a treat unto itself.
When AbilityFirst invited guardians to attend last year for a Friends and Family session, I jumped at the chance to go with him. I was able to see what a strong sense of belonging he felt there at his home away from home. I saw his creative side come out, doing art and crafts, braiding his friends’ hair every day – he is totally in his element.
If it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t be able to enjoy this amazing experience so I’m asking you to consider making a donation so that Christopher and his friends can continue going to camp every year?
The accommodation and level of care for individuals with disabilities is simply not available elsewhere. The camp staff really does meet the camper where they are at. From swimming to arts and crafts, nature studies, archery and performing arts – they’ve got it all and it’s the only place in California that offers this high level of care for almost 300 participants every year.
Thank you for supporting the joy and warmth of Camp Paivika. I hope that with your continued generosity, Christopher will enjoy his annual trips for many years to come.
All the best,
Michelle Smith
