As we end our #DisabilityAwarenessMonth campaign, we’re sharing Chuck’s story!
Chuck has been actively involved with AbilityFirst since 2014 and is currently participating in the PossAbility-Pasadena program, designed for adults who want to enhance their skills and independence and participate in their communities! But… did you know, that Chuck has also participated in the Special Olympics since he was 10? YEP! He won a bronze medal for Track and Field in 1972! Fast forward to 2011, when Chuck won a gold medal for basketball. During his time with Special Olympics he went on to win 3 more gold medals in bowling, golf and another for basketball! He also added 2 silver and 3 more bronze medals in softball, and in track and field!
Special Olympics allows athletes aged 8-80 to participate in various sports. And although it has been a few years since Chuck was last involved with Special Olympics Southern California, he has very fond memories of the coaches, and the fun he had, while competing with other athletes. Chuck hopes to have a chance to add to his gold medal count sometime in the future! Here he is photographed with all of his medal “swag!!”. He shares his time with PossAbility-Pasadena: “I love that it provides me with a safe place where I can be myself, relax and hang out with friends.”
Go, Chuck!
